On Wednesday, women activists and organisers of the annual Aurat March in Hyderabad, Sindh, namely Amar Sindhu, Haseen Musarrat Shah, Rubina Chandio and Rozina Junejo, expressed their unhappiness over insufficient financial allocation by Sindh government in the 2022-23 budget.
The activists said women studying and working in cities like Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana need better transportation and accommodation facilities to smoothly carry on their education and work, currently hampered by inadequate facilities. For example, they said, women seeking higher education in the cities often return to their villages because of a dearth of viable housing for women. They said women seeking work leave the cities because of poor wages. They asked the government to create a dedicated fund to establish women’s hostels and increase access to transportation.
